The Faculty Practice Director is responsible for practice operations, patient access and experience, faculty provider support, and a range of administrative functions in support of the success and growth the CDM practices.. The College of Dental Medicine currently operates dental practices at 5 locations from Midtown to Upper Manhattan. These practices are members of the ColumbiaDoctors faculty practice organization and constitute ColumbiaDoctors: _Dentistry_ . At present, across all locations, ColumbiaDoctors: _Dentistry_ sees approximately 6,000 patients for approximately 20,0000 visits annually. 40 faculty members treat these patients, with faculty time in the practice ranging from ? day to 5 days per week. In addition to faculty, the practice employs 10 receptionists, 7 hygienists, 24 dental assistants and 3 practice managers. Payer mix includes CIGNA, Aetna, United Healthcare, and small volume of Medicaid Managed Care.. Responsibilities. + Practice Operations - The Faculty Practice Director is responsible for efficient, effective and patient-centered operations across all practice locations. Key responsibilities in these operations are patient access and the management of schedules that promote timely, responsive and professional care experience. The Faculty Practice Director is responsible for closely monitoring and management of schedules, ensuring optimization of schedules for providers, patients and available facilities. Director is also responsible for close monitoring and, in consultation with leadership, development and adjustment of schedules to balance the need for Hygiene, General Dentistry, and Specialist appointments. Director will monitor and manage the necessary staffing such as Dental Assistants, Hygienists, and Receptionists to support effective practice operations. The Director is responsible for clean, compliant and professional facilities and is, therefore, responsible for working with appropriate staff to: ensure that equipment is functioning, maintained, and repaired or replaced in a timely manner; ensure maintenance of cleaning schedules and compliance with infection prevention and control protocols; ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Director effectively manages a range of vendor relationships that support successful practice operations. Central to practice operations is the effective use of the electronic health record and the Faculty Practice Director is responsible for ensuring consistent, compliant, correct utilization of the EHR and for initiating the necessary follow-up measures to address any identified needs.Patient Experience - In addition to ensuring patient access, the Faculty Practice Director has overall responsibility for promoting patient-centered care and the patient experience. Director, through supervision of staff, ensures high-level, consistent customer service across all aspects of a patient experience. Serves as a point of contact for customer complaints; is responsible for resolution of complaints and requests as appropriate; escalates, facilitates and tracks resolution of complaints that require provider, leadership or external involvement. Faculty Practice Director is responsible for leading patient-care improvement initiatives through root-cause analysis; various changes to policies, processes, and training; tool and technology implementations.. + Faculty Provider Support - Faculty providers are central to the success of the practice and the Faculty Practice Director plays a key role in supporting these providers and enabling their success in the practice. In addition to working closely with providers and practice managers on their respective provider schedules, the Faculty Practice Director is responsible, in conjunction with practice managers, to be in regular communication with providers on staffing, equipment, supplies, revenue cycle issues, patient record management, compliance and any patient issues that pertain to them. While conversations and interactions are primarily about support of faculty, the Director is also responsible for being an initial or early point of contact and communication on any issues that a provider must address regarding practice policies and good standing. The Faculty Practice Director is also responsible for meeting with practice leadership teams comprised of practice faculty providers and CDM senior Directors on a range of strategic projects and practice development initiatives.. + Revenue Cycle - The Faculty Practice Director is responsible for working closely with the revenue cycle team at CDM and ColumbiaDoctors and manages a lead role in the both the initial phase of the revenue cycle-ensuring registration, billing, and associated documentation are done in an effective, timely and compliant manner-as well as incorporating necessary feedback, correction and adjustments based on post-claim submission-resolving denials, completing requests for additional information, working with staff to reduce accounts receivable. In addition to the ongoing transactional duties associated with revenue cycle, the Faculty Practice Director is responsible for collaborating with the revenue cycle team on revenue improvement initiatives, looking at payer mix, schedule optimization, fees, and process improvements. Faculty Practice Director is responsible for an ongoing set of reporting requirements with regard to revenue cycle. Director will also play a key role in assisting with tasks and activities related to any practice development.. + Supervision, Budget, Administration - The Faculty Practice Director directly supervises practice managers, and is also responsible for indirect supervision of approximately 40 practice staff. Working with CDM HR, assures that all HR functions and responsibilities are managed, including but not limited to: staff orientation and training program; personnel record maintenance; staff development and performance management; development of employee manual specific to the dental practice; provision of on-site coverage for managers as needed during absences/vacancies. Director is responsible for working with CDM finance to develop budgets, manage them, explain and respond to variances, assist with the analysis and development of any new needs or strategies for addressing any operating deficiencies. Faculty Practice Director is also responsible for coordinating as needed with CDM, CUIMC and ColumbiaDoctors offices on areas such as IT, insurance contracts, communications, etc. Faculty Practice Director serves as a senior director and is responsible for other duties as assigned.. Minimum Qualifications. + Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications. + An MBA, MPH, or MHA is desirable.. + Experience with implementing a billing system conversion and conversion from paper to electronic record is preferred.. + Experience with dental practice management a plus.. Other Requirements. + Five years of large group practice management experience. + Experience with billing and reimbursement. + Ability to undertake multiple tasks. + Superior oral and written communication skills with high degree of interpersonal ability to develop service-oriented practice. + Ability to organize data/information. + Prepare and deliver PowerPoint presentations for various purposes. + Proven track record managing clinical practice operations. + Ability to provide initiative, judgment and creativity in the resolution of complex problems. + Advanced computer literacy required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
