Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is recruiting an experienced engineer to work in the Reactor Safety and Technology Development (RSTD) unit. RSTD consists of motivated, technically diverse engineers, project managers, and analysts who develop the methodology and perform complex analysis to better understand beyond design basis accident progression. A successful candidate will maintain ownership of work including planning, model development, analysis, documentation, and technical reviews. Some responsibilities include being able to model the plant using state of the art safety analysis codes and develop a thorough understanding of the accident progression and the underlying phenomena. Additional responsibilities will include performing thermal-hydraulic and heat transfer analyses and developing scripts to increase the efficiency of analyses evaluation. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to integrate accident insights into accident management strategies, and interact with organizations within and external to NNL.

Job Requirements

Senior:

  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience
  • Principal:

  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years relevant experience
  • Job Preferred Skills

    Experience with:

  • Analysis of engineering problems and computer simulations.
  • Performing reactor safety analyses.
  • MELCOR or similar codes that perform reactor safety analyses.
  • Interacting with and/or presenting to independent review agencies.
  • Program/project management.
